Leadlight Skylights-Real verses Imitation

Another area which leadlights can add beauty is in skylights. They can look quite spectacular in the right situation. Traditionally imitation leadlight was used as decoration on skylights whereby a stick of lead is adhered to the glass and the design was then in filled with either coloured glass paint or coloured contact film. The problem with this method is that sometimes the lead would fall off and the coloured paint or contact would fade quite considerably. Leadlight is a better alternative in that coloured glass is guaranteed not to fade. To combat the problem of sagging we simply install the leadlight on top of a sheet of safety glass, that when properly cleaned, is barely visible.

With Imitation leadlights, you simply can’t get the same colour range, strength of colour, steadfast colour, variety of colour and range of textures that you can with glass, and with the absence of solder joins, it simply doesn’t look as good or give you the same impact that real leadlight does for a price that is not that much more. Here are some examples.
